I hate to say it, but I am disppointed. While The First Time was a little unpolished, it was an incredibly fun and charming album with a lot of personality. Unapologetically is certainly more polished and mature than its predecessor, yet somehow it also lacks all the charm and spunk I appreciated about and that drew me towards The First Time. The best (and sadly only solo written song, why did they not let Kelsea show off more of her incredible talent?) on the album is High School. The rest of the songs simply don't grab me or blow me away. It's frustrating that Kelsea played so many of the songs she's written over the last few years live (letting fans grow attaached to them) that now never made it onto this album (like Fun & Games), making the disappointment that much more pronounced - because they were so much better and more fun than the collection of songs presented on her sophomore album. I understand that Kelsea matured and grew up and wanted her music to reflect that, but personally, I am so disappointed. I just hope some of the unreleased tracks make their way onto an album somehow someday (Kelsea said she wrote more than 200 songs during the writing process for Unapologetically, so maybe a collection of B Sides wouldn't be too far out of the realm of possibility in a few months?). I'm just waiting for the Deluxe version now, which is said to include two more songs and maybe they will make up for the strong sense of underwhelmed disappointment I'm feelin right now.
